The Voice You've Been Quieting

(And the Cost of Not Trusting It)

We all have voices.

The deep inner knowing one… quiet, steady, often pushed aside by the day's noise. And the louder ego one: reactive, fear-driven, all too often calling the shots when we're not paying attention.

If you're not aware and present, the loud one wins. Almost every time.

I know this personally. I've learned the hard way.

I have always had a strong inner knowing. When I think back to the major decisions of my life - school, marriage, kids, career - I can feel it now. I knew what I wanted. I felt it clearly in my body. But I didn't trust it.

I let outside voices override the inside one. Society. Friends and family. The pull of an expected picture of what life was supposed to look like. The desire to be received well, to avoid disappointing someone, to do the thing that made sense to everyone except me.

I don't live with regret, every one of those decisions shaped who I am, the work I do, and the woman I've become. But I've had enough insight, and enough years of honest self-reflection, to recognize the times I didn't listen. To feel where my body told me and I overrode it with my head.

That recognition is its own kind of wisdom. And it's the one I keep building on.

A few months ago I did a session with my energy and consciousness coach. The intention was simple: to release all the times I had not trusted my inner knowing. and to commit, going forward, to honoring that voice and the feeling it leaves in my body.

That night I got violently ill. Vomiting and everything that comes with it. A full purge. My body let go of what it had been holding, for years, maybe longer.

In the weeks since, old injuries have subsided. Life feels lighter, even through genuinely difficult times. Something that had been bracing, holding, protecting… released.

That is what the body does when you finally let yourself listen.

I'm not going to tell you it's easy.

Living and trusting that inner voice can be lonely. It is often unconventional. It is frequently not received by people operating at a different frequency (as Bekah would say ;-).

But it is what I choose. To live authentically. According to my purpose. In alignment with the truth of who I am and what lights me up inside.

It's something I practice every day. Something I commit to over and over.

Here is what I want you to understand, because this is where it moves from philosophy to physiology.

Living in or out of alignment has a physical effect on your body.

Your thoughts and your attitude determine the energy in your cells. That energy shapes how your hormones, your neurotransmitters, and your metabolic systems respond. When you live out of alignment… chronically overriding your inner knowing, performing, people-pleasing, ignoring what your body is telling you… your body doesn't just feel it. It holds it.

I see this constantly. Women trying to control their bodies with food and exercise, doing everything "right", and still not feeling well. Still holding weight. Still injured. Still exhausted. Because food and exercise matter, yes, but the mental game is an equal player. Sometimes the louder one.

Bodies hold on in different ways:

  • Some through mental patterns — depression, anxiety, a low-grade hum of unease that never quite lifts

  • Some through physical pain — the back, the neck, the hips, the feet. Tension the body has been carrying for years because it had nowhere to put what wasn't being spoken

  • Some through weight — doing everything right and still unable to release what the body is holding onto for protection

You cannot food or exercise your way out of what the mind and nervous system are running.

This Is What the Retreat Is About

The next Women's Wellness Retreat is designed to hone that inner voice. To strengthen it. To learn to trust it. To let it guide how you live.

When a woman trusts her inner knowing, it changes everything, not in some abstract, spiritual way, but in the most concrete, lived way possible:

  • Leadership at work — making decisions from clarity instead of fear

  • Relationships with the people you love — showing up honestly instead of performing

  • Joy and peace in how you spend your time — choosing what actually matters to you

  • Abundance — attracting the love, the opportunities, and the life that match who you actually are

  • Health — moving from fighting your body to partnering with it, creating the energy, strength, and balance to thrive

That is what alignment does. And that is what we go to find.
