Why I Talk About Protein and Patterns of Thought
Over the years, I’ve had countless conversations about nutrition, movement, mindset, and everything in between.
Today, I want to share the deeper connection behind all of it—and why working with both the body and the mind is essential for lasting change.
This is the heart of my work, and I think you’ll see yourself in this story.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ve probably noticed I cover a wide range of topics—from gut health and protein to consciousness and spirituality. So what’s the connection?
The short answer: everything.
In my years of growing up (and by that I mean the real work of growth—between 35 and 50!), I’ve had the privilege of experiencing many life chapters, learning from incredible practitioners, and diving deep into both science and self. These experiences have deeply shaped how I understand health, performance, and personal transformation.
I’ve shared glimpses along the way, but here’s the through-line:
The mind and body are intricately connected.
When I was first diagnosed with leaky gut, nutrition was foundational to my healing—probably 80% of it at the time. But the remaining 20%? That came from shifting how I thought and felt. I learned about depression, the brain, and the incredible neuroplasticity that allows us to “retrain” our thoughts. Meditation, story work, breath. That changed everything.
As a certified nutritionist, I began my practice focused on symptoms and food logs. Clients felt better. They understood the power of food to fuel, heal, and energize. But over time, I noticed something: even with physical improvements, many weren’t experiencing lasting transformation.
That changed when I started working with the whole person. This meant exploring limiting beliefs, body image, thought patterns, values, and the deeper “why” behind daily choices. I saw what I had experienced personally begin to happen for my clients: not just improvement—but true transformation.
“I began my work with Emilee thinking I needed to focus on nutrition. I had gained 10 pounds and couldn’t get it off. What Emilee helped me see was that nutrition was only a small part of holistic wellness. Over five months, I focused on joy, career, sleep, movement—and became a less stressed, more self-loving version of myself and the 10 lbs came off.”
“I came to Emilee thinking I needed a training plan. I ended up going on a deep journey of discovering what was truly important to me—physically and emotionally. She challenged and supported me in ways I didn’t know I needed. I finally feel like a real runner, and more importantly, more connected to myself.”
Wellness is not just about what you eat. It’s how you feel about what you eat.
It’s not just about how you move—it’s about why you move, and how that movement reflects who you want to become. So yes, I’ll keep talking about protein and purpose, supplements and self-worth, gut function and growth. Because all of it matters.
And you deserve all of it.
